North Port to receive $1.8M grant for infrastructure repair
The City of North Port has been awarded $1,800,440.00 by Governor Ron DeSantis to improve inflow and infiltration of our wastewater collection system, as well as install permanent alternative emergency power for lift stations. This will greatly improve the efficiency of our system during storm events.
“The projects we have slated for this funding include rehabilitation of our aging infrastructure by placing liners within existing piping. This will prevent stormwater from seeping into our wastewater system and reduce the load our system must process during heavy rains. Additionally, we’ll be placing permanent alternative emergency power at lift stations to ensure that we have continuous flow to move wastewater through the system in the event of an electrical outage. This is a critical component to help prevent backups during times of severe weather crisis,” said Rick Newkirk, Utilities Director.
